Question this week – something was stolen from my car!?!

Any personal possessions you have in your car are not covered under an auto policy.  However, your homeowners (or renters) policy does cover your personal property when you take it with you – on vacation, in the car, etc.  We advise against making a small claim on your homeowner’s policy and of course your deductible will apply – so try not to keep your valuables in your car.  Definitely don’t leave money in the car as your policy has a limit on theft of cash.   Lock anything you must take with you out of sight in the trunk but stuff happens so know that if the unexpected happens you are covered.

Of course if someone breaks into your car and damages the car, or steals the car outright, that is covered under the auto comprehensive coverage.
